At the heart of Metro-land is the popular area of Rayners Lane. It lies to the south-east of Harrow. Most of the residential properties were built between 1929 and 1938 by the borough’s most prolific house builder T F Nash. These are mainly terrace and semi-detached homes, with a large number of purpose-built flats along the shopping roads of Alexandra Avenue and Rayners Lane. The main primary education establishments for the area are Grange, Newton Farm and Roxbourne First and Middle Schools. The closest high schools are Rooks Heath College on the Eastcote Lane, and Nower Hill to the north.
Rayners Lane Underground Station is a busy transport hub, providing Piccadilly and Metropolitan Line trains to the City and West End, and out of London on the Uxbridge branch. It is in Zone 5, and two stops from Harrow on the Hill station. Buses stopping outside the station are the H9, H10, H12 and the 398. A walk of about 15 minutes takes you to North Harrow and the Watford branch of the Metropolitan Line.
There’s plenty of choice for local shopping, and the area boasts a small Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Iceland, and many independent grocers. There is also a range of specialist shops, building societies, a NatWest, Post Office, a popular Wetherspoons and Rayners Lane Library.
Newton Park is a large recreation ground behind the Alexandra Avenue Health Centre. There’s also a secluded park on Imperial Drive near to Village Way East.
Rayners Lane’s neighbouring areas are North Harrow, South Harrow, Pinner and Eastcote.
